In one of my favorite interviews on withjosh.com, you’ll see how twenty-two year old Diana DeGarmo has a maturity and insight far beyond her years. At the age of sixteen, DeGarmo was thrust into the media spotlight as the Season 3 runner-up on American Idol. Over sixty-five million votes were cast during the finale and DeGarmo narrowly lost by only 2%. She signed with RCA and her album “Blue Skies” debuted December 7, 2004. Despite selling 47,000 copies in its first week, DeGarmo admits the album didn’t reflect her as an artist. The album went on to sell an impressive 200,000 copies, but RCA and DeGarmo eventually parted ways.
Over the next few years, DeGarmo went on a journey of self-discovery. She traded her tween pop/rock persona for an impressive Broadway debut as the nerdy Penny Pingleton in Tony Award winning HAIRSPRAY. A national tour of BROOKLYN: THE MUSICAL shortly followed and then DeGarmo again reprised her role of Penny in HAIRSPRAY. In 2007, DeGarmo filmed CMT’s Gone Country, and for the first time she found a familiar sound that resonated from within: DeGarmo felt at home.
In part one of my interview, DeGarmo and I cover the American Idol/”Blue Skies” experience and her current starring role in the off-Broadway hit THE TOXIC AVENGER. We also discuss her brand new album, “Unplugged in Nashville”, which includes a track that she co-wrote called “Find Me.” The song eloquently describes her journey over the past five years and her optimistic outlook after following through with the promises she has made to herself.
In part two, DeGarmo candidly discusses her “life changing” experience with an Australian cyber-stalker who infiltrated her and family’s life. Though horrific and altering, DeGarmo’s positive attitude shines through the darkness. DeGarmo also gives me an exclusive about her involvement in the Broadway revival of CARRIE: THE MUSICAL, which is adapted from the Stephen King novel.
As evidenced in my time with her, DeGarmo is both relatable and grounded. Her openness and realistic outlook on the lessons she’s learned can only come from an internal beauty made from the triumphs and trials of life.

Hi, Josh:
I was watching it with more attention, and i must confess you that i thonk so much bout somethings. First, i never thonk in the australian people in this way, they seem a peaceable neighbours, a bit far but nothing paranoics.
I was listening her and i said me: “ Oh, my God!, perhaps the fans are sounding like 1 serial killers of X-Files”, Yes, it sound like jonte, but it`s serious; first i think that internet is a great side for meet incredible persons, but it`s used for bad things and for bad persons too. I believe that the word “fan” have a bad connotation. Remember when i was child, i adorated X-Files (i adorate it today, like “Ducktales”too and you know!), it was determining my character 4ever. I dreammed with go to Vancouver for meet to Gillian, David, Chris ( the creator) and all peoples of it. It was on my mind all days. Late, the show ends. The last year The X Files has the second movie and i went to cinema clothing like Scully. All this large years i never “talk” with other fans of this TV Show cause i thonk that i didn`t the same level of them cause i didn’t have all merchandissing. Today, i´m a woman, not a child and now i understand that the important isn`t meet them in front, or interupt in their lifes (i know, i´ve-like all fans of X-Files- a stranger feeling respect Tea Leoni -who`s with David- cause she hates the show but the money of Duchovny is for X-Files, or no? Je!), the important is all feelings that i feel with it, and all things that they was feeling with it; and perhaps they`ll be never to know it, but it was the best years of my life (time of A-Teens in the Music, too). I think that it`s the real heartfelt of the fan, the other is fanaticism. Today, when i see me here on withJosh.com, i cant help think on: i want more bout Josh: more videos, more pics (you`re sooooooo beautiful), more bout of your personal life cause you`re into my days, you`re important and specially. I know, many peoples say me: “You`re fool cause he`s so far” and my answer is: “i don`t need to Josh front me, cause the most beautiful is to give my insignificance support from here to the person who`s make me happy with his virtual but important presence. If Josh is happy, i´m happy too”. Yeah, late Joshitas are jealous if you`ve some people in your life, but it`s the absurd feeling of fan, nothing more, internally we want your happiness. So what, Relax! We`ll be not to kill to you specially person or kidnaping you like in “Missery” (in the film the man is writing books, and you`re songwriter, je!).Yeah, we`re in the same hemisphere but only take care if you`ll be cross with 1 australian!!!
My support for Diana DeGarmo cause i know how terrible is that someone is making you feeling bad; it`s a lesson and example for other girls who living one similar situation and who`ve fear for it.Thanx Diana for this Message and experience of life.
Love you, Dheniss from Argentina. And remember; my only paranoia is believe in Aliens!
