Rick Egusquiza – The National Enquirer

The National Enquirer

When the news broke of John Edwards’ political scandal with his mistress/future baby mama Rielle Hunter, it wasn’t CNN or MSNBC that had the exclusive story, it was The National Enquirer. The Enquirer had been following the story since September, 2007 after an anonymous tip. Covering the story was The National Enquirer’s senior reporter, Rick Egusquiza, who first exposed Edwards’ misdeeds on October 10, 2007. Egusquiza decided not to use Hunter’s name in the story but instead cited unnamed sources. Interesting enough, the Enquirer has a policy that ALL stories must be confirmed by two different sources. After Egusquiza’s story ran, the tabloid was flooded with numerous calls and emails confirming John Edwards’ scandal was going to be bigger than they thought.Rick Egusquiza

Last week I invited Mr. Egusquiza to lunch at Quality, my favorite Los Angeles eatery. I was fascinated by Egusquiza’s stories! For example, Alec Baldwin once called him, yelling and threatening to sue Egusquiza if he printed “the fuckin’ story” about Baldwin’s temper. Egusquiza and the Enquirer decided to drop the story, but a few months later, Baldwin’s temper caught up with him again and he was caught on tape berating his daughter.

I wanted to know everything from Egusquiza’s start in tabloid journalism to why America has a constant fascination with celebrity gossip. Oddly enough, while having our pre-interview lunch, Academy Award winning actress Renee Zellweger sat at a table near us. I took this as a sign that I was in for a memorable interview.

  5. Rick Egusquiza – The National Enquirer:

It`s diamic and fresh to see. I really prefer this relax interviews, cause you put on it your fluent way to express and you generate a great climate. You gain make them talk in a intimate way, and it talent is own of you.
Rick Egusquiza was so good with him talk; he seems a secure man front camera if you think that he`s in the other side ever.
I think that this employ is complicate cause you work with persons, and sometimes, it dimension is spending significance when you want the news and cross the line affecting the reality of others; it`s part of others aspects of the life; but i think that itsn`t the guilt of the reporter, it`s the guilt of the all person who is propitiate it. 1 actress named Julieta Díaz, in my county, said: “if you want to follow the most horrible things on the persons, you`ll be gaining it, cause it`s into the person and it want to emerge”, I think in the same way, i supose that when we´re admirate to somebody, 1 part of us want to know all bout the artist and in many cases we forget the person into the artist, and it´s terrible. I don´t believe that 1 person must be an object of other person for be famous, it`s absurd. I understand to Rick .E. he make his work and it´s good cause in someway they`re the element for promotion for some famous but It, in my country, exceed all:if you see the products on TV, and magazine of producers and editors like Bentura you´ll be checking many lies and scandal and you can to pass all month talk bout the break romance of Graciela Alfano-Matias Alé(and his new g-friend Silvia Escudero) and 1 new person in the meadle who`s dead!!!!! And we, like audience are part of this horrible bussiness cause it`s intrinsic of the humanity all. It`s like the Michael Jackson´s case: he was dead and his image was around the world in minutes; it`s animal. But I think that this information would be making with a bit of caution like said Rick cause he make his work and it`s an advantage cause he can show us many interesent storys like the Patrick`s story, who was fighting till final with his illness and it`s a great explample for our lifes. Other example would be the conflict of State in Honduras, there, the Tv and magazines was a great help to the people for express the true and it was difficult cause the military government don´t give the pass to the Press for work.
Other: you´re fine in this interview, you drive all details there, and the trafic too, really cool, this is 1 Really Hoster!!!!I adorate it, really. You`re all good things into my life, Josh, and the better Hoster in the world!!!!!!!
