Spring Awakening

Spring Awakening

Steven Sater is the voice your parents warned you about. The voice you were told to keep hidden and never acknowledge. He is edgy, refreshing, and not afraid to be real. Puberty sucks. Parents are hurtful. Growing up is “The Bitch of Living.” Sometimes you’re just “Totally Fucked.” Not exactly words you would say out loud, but we can all identify with the bitter sentiments expressed in Sater’s lyrics.

In 1999, Sater teamed up with composer Duncan Sheik, and the result was the award winning Broadway rock musical Spring Awakening (2006). The impact resulted in a major contribution to a mini-cultural revolution among young adults, which was evidenced by its impressive 888 performance tenure, tours in 17 different countries, an upcoming feature film, and multiple achievements such as 4 Drama Desk Awards, a Grammy Award and 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical. It changed Broadway and impacted the lives of teens across the world.

Steven Sater Interview Highlights include: Spring Awakening The Movie, The Tour, Behind the lyrics of “The Bitch of Living” and “Totally Fucked,” The Tony Awards, an EXCLUSIVE announcement of the new film version of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG

  3. Josh,

I just watched your interview with Steven Sater and truly enjoyed it. I have a personal interest in Spring Awakening. My son Taylor is replacing Blake Bashoff on the National Tour. I have not yet met any of the creators of the show, so your interview really enlightened me to some things I never knew about it and the people who made it come to life. It was obvious Steven was very comfortable with you and I thought you did a very good job picking the questions to ask him.I had no idea he was working on all those projects! Thanks for a great job. You should definitely do some more!
